The Magic of Accountability

We all have often intended to do something but then never got around to it. Maybe it was because we ran out of time, or maybe we were actually afraid of the outcome, even though we probably didn’t acknowledge that to ourselves, and so we use lack of time as a convenient excuse. Or maybe we simply are being lazy! Whatever the reasons, there is no doubt that our non-action meant we didn’t get the outcomes or results that we could have got. We settled for second best!

Let me introduce you to the magic of accountability!

Accountability sounds like a scary thing but trust me is really is quite magical and easily created without being scary! Once we or someone else says that they are going to do something we simply have to ask two or three additional questions, such as:

When do you think you will get that done?

And/or

How committed are you to doing that?

And/or

When shall we check in to see how that worked out for you?

Please note that by answering these questions people go further on the journey of taking an idea to being actioned – accountability in a nutshell. The questions make people think and when they have the thought (and ideally share it out loud with someone else) they are far more likely to take action than if the idea simply stayed as a thought in their head.

So, if you want intention to result in better outcomes, add in some accountability by asking some questions and magical things happen!
