Stand Guard at the Door of Your Mind

I am a huge fan of Tony Robbins and he often quotes his mentor and friend, Jim Rohn, who advises to “stand guard at the door of your mind every day”.
This advice has served me really well over the last 20 years and in particular over the last couple of years, during what has to be described as scary and challenging times. Whilst it is important that I know what is going on in the world, I also don’t want to overwhelm myself or focus on all the negativity and fear that sadly seems to surround us on a daily basis. We don’t seem to be able to go anywhere without being interrupted either overtly or subliminally with messages that don’t serve us and adversely impact our wellbeing.
So today I am calling for you to find ways to stand guard at the door of your mind. In practice this means that you consciously choose what you want to expose your mind to by doing the following:
1) Limit the time spent watching TV and on social media
2) Choosing what information you want to know about and limiting the negative and fear driven things (note the media write headlines to try to hook you in, so you need to be disciplined)
3) Choosing who you spend your time with and what you talk about
4) Finding things to do that uplift you and feed your mind with positive thoughts that make you feel good
We can’t control what is happening in the world, but we can control our response to it. By taking some simple steps to ensure that we are making positive choices about what we expose ourselves to, we can dramatically improve our experience of the world during these challenging times.
What choices are you now going to make?
